What do you write?
I write slow-burn speculative contemporary fiction with romantic throughlines, dual POV, and dual timelines exploring human connection, hurt, healing, and coming of age at any age.
My work currently lives in the new adult space, but I hope to explore literary spaces for younger audiences in the future so that I may write stories I can share with my daughter.
Why do music and playlists matter to your writing?
I’ve always been a fan of lyrical writing, whether from literary greats like Theodor Geisel or more contemporary authors with musical prose.
Musical cadence is music to my ears, and what’s more musical than music? Growing up with visual stories layered intentionally with sound made for an immersive and formative experience. Watching The WB and CW’s emotionally resonant storytelling for decades was bound to leave a musical mark.
I can still hear Kim Richey’s “A Place Called Home” when I think of the death of Winifred Burkle. When done with intention, music leaves an indelible mark and has the power to forever attach to a moment.
I can say with certainty, if I were an Instance like Thea—a living, breathing moment in time—that my heart would be bound to hold lyrics.
Transforming a song’s emotional DNA into narrative form was never an intention of mine, but I’m glad to say the intention found me all the same. I hope that my words—and their music—find you too.
